This is the cover frame for your product video. Vertical 9:16 format only. Keep critical content away from the bottom 20% of the frame where UI overlays appear. Bright, high-contrast images perform significantly better in feed placements.

Hard Reject
Watermark, logo, or third-party branding visible on main image
TikTok Shop's automated system scans for logos and watermarks on main images and rejects them immediately. Remove all overlays including subtle corner watermarks before uploading.
Main image does not have a clean background
A busy or dark background on the main image frequently triggers rejection or suppressed search visibility. Shoot on white or reprocess the background before submission.
Image resolution below 800x800px
Any image under the 800px minimum on either dimension is automatically rejected at upload. Always work at 1200x1200px or higher and export at the required minimum at worst.
File size exceeds 5MB
TikTok Shop enforces a 5MB per image limit. Export JPGs at 85 to 90 percent quality to stay under the limit without visible quality loss.
Prohibited content detected (weapons, adult content, regulated goods imagery)
TikTok's moderation is aggressive about community guideline violations. Even incidental background content that resembles prohibited items can trigger a flag. Review every image carefully before upload.
Unsubstantiated health or efficacy claims in image text
Phrases like 'cures', 'clinically proven', or 'FDA approved' in image text will trigger manual review and likely rejection for health, beauty, and wellness products. Use factual, measurable claims only.
Product shown does not match the listed SKU or variant
If the image shows a blue item but the listing is for red, moderators will reject or suppress the variant. Each variant should have its own correctly matched image.
Before-and-after imagery for beauty or health products
TikTok Shop explicitly restricts before-and-after comparisons for cosmetics, supplements, and health products due to misleading results concerns. Use ingredient or texture shots instead.
Warning
Blurry, pixelated, or poorly lit image
TikTok Shop manually reviews flagged listings and low image quality results in suppression or rejection. Proper lighting and sharp focus are treated as baseline quality requirements.
Excessive text covering more than 30 percent of image area
Images that look more like banner ads than product photos get deprioritized by the algorithm and may be flagged. Keep text callouts tight and purposeful.
Mannequin or disembodied hands visible in main image
The main image should show the product by itself or on a live model for apparel. Mannequins and floating hands in the main slot frequently lead to rejections for fashion categories.
Duplicate or near-identical images across all slots
Uploading the same photo multiple times does not help conversion and signals low-effort listings to the algorithm. Each image slot should show something genuinely different about the product.

Shoot at 2400x2400px minimum and downscale for export. This gives you zoom quality that keeps buyers engaged longer, and longer dwell time directly improves your listing rank in TikTok Shop search.

Your main image competes in a vertical, video-first feed. Use the full square frame, get the product large in the frame, and make sure it reads clearly at 100px thumbnail size before you upload.

TikTok Shop listings that include a product video get significant algorithmic preference. Film a short 15 to 30 second demo video in 9:16 format using your phone. You do not need a production crew, you need clarity and good lighting.
