Required
Cover Photo
RequiredNo mandatory background. Plain, bright, uncluttered surfaces (white wall, light wood floor, white foam board) perform best in the feed. Avoid busy bedspreads, carpet, and messy rooms.
Poshmark crops photos to a square, so frame for 1:1 before uploading or the app will cut off hems, sleeves or shoe toes. Keep it product-focused on a white or simple background. No phone numbers, emails, social handles, URLs or anything pushing an off-platform sale. Must show the actual item being sold, not a different color or a stock image of a similar piece.
Optional
Measurement Photo
OptionalItem laid flat on a plain surface with a visible tape measure.
Show pit-to-pit, length, waist and inseam as relevant, with the tape measure readable in the photo. This photo prevents more fit-related returns and cases than anything else you can add.
Flaw / Condition Close-Up
OptionalAny background; lighting must show the flaw accurately.
Photograph every stain, pill, snag, scuff, missing button or sole wear. Point to the flaw with a fingertip or pen in the shot rather than drawing on the photo. Undisclosed flaws are the top reason 'not as described' cases go against sellers.
Modeled / On-Body Shot
OptionalNeutral wall or simple outdoor setting. Keep the background soft and free of distractions.
Faces can be cropped out. No nudity or sexually suggestive poses; lingerie and swimwear should be shown flat, on a mannequin, or modeled modestly. Children's clothing should not be modeled in ways that expose the child; flat lays are safer. Mention your height and size in the description so buyers can read the fit.
Brand Tag / Label Close-Up
OptionalAny background; the tag should fill most of the frame.
Show the brand label sharply enough to read. For designer items, include serial numbers, date codes, hardwarestamps and heat stamps. Select luxury items at $500 or more go through Posh Authenticate, and clear tag photos reduce friction and buyer doubt.
Size and Fabric Content Tag
OptionalAny background; tag fills the frame.
Fabric content is one of the most common buyer questions. Photograph the care/content tag even if it is faded. If the size tag was cut, say so in the description and rely on measurements.
Listing Video
OptionalSame clean setup as your photos.
Up to 15 seconds. Keep the item centered since the display is cropped toward square. Use it to show fabric drape, stretch, sheen, sequins, or how a bag opens. Same content rules as photos: no contact info or off-platform references.
Back, Side, and Interior Views
OptionalSame background as the cover for a consistent, clean listing.
Show the back of garments, inside of bags, soles and insoles of shoes, and lining. Use the remaining slots up to the 16-photo limit rather than leaving buyers guessing.
Rejection Reasons
Hard Reject
Contact info, social handles, or URLs in photos
Poshmark removes listings that try to move buyers off-platform, and repeated violations can suspend your account.
Counterfeit or replica items
Listings that appear to be replicas, including 'inspired by' or 'dupe' items using a brand name, get removed and can trigger closet suspension. If it is not authentic, do not tag the brand.
Nudity or sexually suggestive images
Modeled lingerie, swimwear, or revealing poses get flagged and pulled. Shoot intimates flat or on a mannequin.
Photos stolen from another seller
Other Poshers report copied photos, and Poshmark removes the listing on intellectual property complaints. Always shoot your own item.
Prohibited items shown
Weapons, drugs and paraphernalia, used cosmetics, recalled items, and other restricted goods get removed regardless of photo quality. Check the prohibited items list before listing anything outside clothing and accessories.
Offensive or hateful imagery
Graphics, text, or props that violate community guidelines get the listing taken down. This includes items themselves with hateful prints.
Warning
Stock photos only, no real photos
Stock images are not banned, but they hide condition and shift the burden onto you if a case is opened. Use a stock image as a secondary shot at most, with real photos of the actual item.
Undisclosed flaws
The listing stays live, but a buyer who finds an unpictured stain can open a case and you will likely lose it. Photograph every flaw clearly.
Item cropped off by square format
Uploading vertical photos without reframing cuts off key details in the feed. Crop to 1:1 yourself so the whole item is visible.
Dark, blurry, or yellow-tinted photos
Low light and indoor bulbs make items look dingy and wrong in color, which tanks clicks and leads to color complaints. Shoot near a window in daylight.
Heavy filters that change the item's color
A buyer who receives navy when the photo showed royal blue has grounds for a 'not as described' case. Edit for brightness only, never hue.
Cluttered backgrounds, pets, or personal items in frame
Messy rooms and pet hair make buyers worry about smoke, odor, and dander. Clear the frame and lint roll the item.
Optimization Tips
- 01
Shoot by a north-facing or indirect window between mid-morning and mid-afternoon. Turn off overhead lights so you are not mixing warm bulbs with daylight.
- 02
Bright, light-background cover photos stand out in the feed. A cheap white foam board from a craft store works as both a backdrop and a bounce reflector.
- 03
Steam or press everything before shooting. Wrinkles read as 'worn and neglected' and cost you more in offers than the five minutes of steaming.
- 04
For tops and dresses, a ghost mannequin or a clean hanger against a plain door gives shape without a model. Flat lays work best for jeans, kids clothes, and folded knits.
- 05
Use a consistent cover style across your closet: same background, same lighting, same angle. Buyers who visit your closet trust a cohesive look and bundle more.
- 06
Put the tape-measure photo in slot 2 or 3. Fit questions are the biggest source of comments, and answering them visually saves you from back-and-forth that kills impulse buys.
- 07
Shoot shoes from a 45-degree front angle for the cover, then add soles, insoles, heel tips, and the inside size stamp. Sole wear is what buyers zoom in on.
- 08
For bags, stuff them with paper so they hold shape, and photograph corners, handles, interior lining, and any date code. Corner wear is the first thing designer buyers check.
- 09
If a listing goes stale for 60 days or more, try a new cover photo with a different angle or background. Returning shoppers often skip listings they have already seen.
- 10
Use the 15-second video for anything where texture or movement sells: sequins, satin, pleated skirts, chunky knits. Keep it steady and centered for the square crop.
- 11
Take a few photos of the item right before you pack it, showing condition and that it matches the listing. Do not post them, but keep them in case a buyer opens a case.
- 12
Put condition and brand details like NWT in the title and description, not on the photo. Keep the cover shot clean so the item itself does the selling in the feed.
